Great Mother's DIY Craft Project

Custom Paper Silhouettes of Children

What you’ll need:

- Good side profile photo
- Scissors or Xacto Knife
- Tracing Paper
- Glue Stick or Spray Mount
- Stapler
- Black Acid-Free Cardstock Paper
- Plain or Patterned Paper for Mounting
- Frame of Your Choice

What to do:

1. First you will need to start with a good side profile of the person. Make sure there is some contrast with the background so you can get the details of their profile and catch some detail in their hair. Print out the photo in the desired size you would like the end silhouette to be.

2. Next, placing your tracing paper over the photo, carefully trace around the profile of your person. It’s good to incorporate any cowlicks or wisps of hair in bangs or ponytails. These little details make the silhouette more unique and interesting. Don’t worry, sometimes it takes a couple rounds of tracing the face to get just the right one.

3. When you are happy with your tracing, staple the tracing paper to you black acid-free paper. Staple around the traced silhouette. This keeps it in place as you cut your silhouette out.

4. Carefully and slowly cut your silhouette out, using either a good pair of scissors or an Xacto knife (whichever you are more comfortable with using). The tracing paper should be stapled securely to your black acid free paper, but just make sure you are cutting through both as you go.

5. Then take your finished black paper silhouette and mount it to the paper of your choice. I used a patterned paper but you can mount it on plain white background or even use a fun floating frame like shown in the photo above. Use glue stick or spray mount to secure your silhouette.

6. Place in your frame of choice. I prefer Ikea frames. They are good quality and come in a variety of colors and also come in 3 sizes: 19 3/4" x 27 1/2" (pictured here for $22.99), 19 3/4" x 19 3/4" (for $19.99), and 5" x 7" ($7.99).

Have a Happy Mother's Day!

Family Vacation Planning for 5 - not an easy task!

Summer is around the corner and I'm looking for something to do! My husband won't fly and my kids are too young to appreciate anything. So where do I go? I've spent all winter long looking for fun weekend trips for us and this is what I've come up with. If anyone has visited these places please fill me in on what to expect, or even better what to stay away from! Otherwise, I'll post some pics when we get back, should be interesting!

Ocean City, MD

Stay at the Ocean City Hilton

Hilton Suites Ocean City Oceanfront Hotel - Hotel ExteriorHilton Suites Ocean City Oceanfront Hotel - Children's Activity Pool

Visit area attactions such as boardwalk and museums!

Jolly Roger Amusement Park

Hershey Park, PA

With a zoo, water & amusement park, on-site hotels, chocolate museums, and great get-away packages - what more can you ask for in a vacation! Plus the kids stay, play & eat free! Kids 17 and under receive FREE daily breakfast and FREE admission to Hersheypark! Enjoy rides and attractions, deluxe accommodations at Hershey Resorts, and family-friendly dining.

but then a mom of 4 suggested Sandbridge, VA.

Sanctuary Resort courtyard

Sandbridge, VA is 15 min past Virginia beach and an 8 hour drive from NYC! Car ride will be hell but destination looks oh-so tempting! It's oceanfront and you can rent a fully furnished condo with a porta-crib, high chair, and other kid friendly amenities. The prices are completely affordable and best of all there is a kiddie pool, swim-up snack bar, horseback riding, the VA Beach boardwalk and a one hour drive to busch gardens.

There is no better advice than from a seasoned veteran...I'm sold!

Lily Pulitzer at it again!

it seems that every six months I'm posting a blog about Lily Pulitzer, rightfully so, she never ceases to amaze me because she puts her name to good use! Recently, she partnered with Saks fifth avenue and celebrity designers, including Brooke Shields, to help benefit children in need.

They are all big supporters of EBMRF, a volunteer nonprofit foundation dedicated to the support of medical research for Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research Foundation (EBMRF), its causes, the development of successful treatments, and ultimately, its cure.
EB is a group of diseases that afflicts young children. They are characterized by blister formation after minor trauma to the skin.

This family of disorders, most of which are inherited, range in severity from mild to the severely disabling and life-threatening diseases of the skin. This rare genetic disorder affects all ethnic and racial groups. Estimates indicate that as many as 100,000 Americans suffer from some form of EB. The EBMRF is unique in that the Foundation pays no salaries. All work, including executive, legal, accounting, development and administrative, is done on a volunteer basis. It is the goal of the Foundation to keep operating costs at less than 1% of incoming donations so that a full 99% of contributions can go directly to the research program. More information can be found at www.ebkids.org.

April wedding invites – Cherry Blossoms

April is the month that you really know that Spring has sprung.  Cherry Blossoms scream beauty…sweet, pink, adorable little flowers…PERFECT for an April wedding!

March wedding invitations

My theme for March weddings is “Go Green”…and not just because of St Patrick’s Day :)  I am currently working on becoming a vendor for a company that makes plantable invites, notecards, & favors…but in the mean time I would like to show you my design!  It’s a simple retro tree design with paisley and brown, cream, & green shades.  Printed on recycled paper and in a gorgeous green & cream pocketfold with a metallic brown envelope.  I would accent it with a simple raffia pull at the top.  Clean, fun, & GREEN!

I know, I know… (February weddings)

…I am a horrible blogger (smacks self on hand).  Between internet problems and the freaky southern weather making EVERYONE sick, I am very far behind on everything it seems.  I will catch up…PROMISE!

So here is my design for February wedding (in April).  Of course the theme is love but I wanted to do something richer than simple hearts.  I did a paisley & damask invite with the chiffon overlay pocketfold…classy, elegant, different!
